Kids’ Illustrations with ChatGPT

My kids have been writing a bunch of their own stories and making up book covers for them. Now we’re trying to get ChatGPT to bring them to life.

It makes a huge difference to start with a “Give me 10 prompts” prompt instead of just jumping right into “Make me a picture”.

  1. Upload your sketch as an attachment and describe the image. Then ask ChatGPT to come up with prompts to transform your sketch into a book cover.
  2. From the list of prompts ChatGPT returns, choose one and ask it to generate that image. If you want a specific aspect ratio (e.g., 8.5″ x 11″ paper size) make sure to mention that too.
  3. See your image. Try more options until you find one you like. If you need more ideas, ask it to come up with more options with different styles.

For example, here’s a sample of our conversation:

Give me 10 prompts that would take this image and turn it into a comic book cover. The title says “Things At Night”. The background is a starry night sky with a crescent moon. The bottom shows a girl (the main character) running away from a horde of zombies. At the very bottom there is an author’s credit, “By Ruby Hodges”.

Generate image 1. Aspect ratio should match an 8.5″ x 11″ paper size.

Come up with 10 more prompts with different styles. Don’t reuse any of the previous styles. We want to see new and creative options.

Generate image 7 “Digital Glitch Art”. Aspect ratio should match an 8.5″ x 11″ paper size.
