We tried and failed to reach the walls. Couldn’t find the trail to Flakeview.
The best directions I could find online said, “the trail starts behind ladder boulder.”1 So we found the Ladder boulder (aka the Cave boulder) but followed the wrong path. We went west towards Shady Grove, but apparently the trail to Screamweaver/Flakeview is on the east side of the Ladder/Cave boulder. C’est la vie.
We still had a good day bouldering. Cave Rave is a ton of fun (watch out for the tree!) and the Trailside boulder is chock full of good routes.
But maybe it’s best we didn’t find the walls today, since “sport” climbing at Rumbling Bald sound like it’s really trad in disguise—one or two bolts with long runouts, god help you.
One day I’ll find out for sure.
